Hersonissos consists of several small
villages and the main tourist destinations of Limin Hersonissos,
Anissaras and Old Hersonissos. The villages are Koutouloufari, Piscopiano,
Anissaras, Potamies, Avdou, Gonies and Kera. Hersonissos is the largest
tourist resort in Crete and is famous for its nightlife and threfore
preferred by younger holiday makers who want to have fun. The neighbouring
villages offer a little bit more peace.
Getting there: Hersonissos is within
easy reach of Heraklion (27 km) along the National Road, with plenty
of regular buses.
Atmosphere: Lots of discos, shops,
bars so a noisy place better suited to a young public coming here
for the action, not for a quiet holiday. All this is set in beautiful
surroundings with a bay, a small harbour and hills in the background.
But if you look for a quiet holiday, DO NOT go to Hersonissos.
Accommodation: Everything from 5 star
hotels to simple rooms. There are thousands of rooms in Hersonissos
but it may be hard to find something in high season as most hotels
get allocated to package tour operators.

Restaurants: The sea front is completely
given over to restaurants and cafés so you'll have plenty of choice.
Because of the intense competition the quality is not bad at all.
Shopping: Everything for you to shop
all day if that's what you feel like doing.
Nightlife: This is what Hersonissos
is about. Below are some links to a few of the better known discos
