Kato Gouves is not necessarily the most beautiful place for a holiday in Crete but you will find most things that you need, all within a short distance of the airport. The original village of Gouves is located a little more inland.
Getting there 18km from Heraklion with regular bus services
Accommodation: Many apartments and rooms for rent. The larger complexes are all in the hands of tour operators so you would need to book them from your country.
Restaurants are plentiful, both on the main road and closer to the sea
Shopping: The road leading down to the beach is full of all the shops that you will need during your holidays
Beach There are small sandy beaches. The sea front is fairly low key, not overbuilt.
Additional comments A good base for excursions in the region. Kato Gouves is separated from Kokkini Hani by the remains of an American military base. This part is not very pretty at all but there are plans to turn it into something else
