Makrigialos and Analipsi used to be located
at each end of a long beach but nowadays they almost form one village.
There are a few large hotels used for package tourism (a huge
Sunwing complex) in Analipsi. Makrigialos has a pretty fishing harbour.
Getting there: regular public buses between
Ierapetra and Agios Nikolaos pass here
Atmosphere: it is not mass toursim yet so the area
around the harbour of Makrigialos is still quite pleasant. The surrounding
landscape of the villages consist mainly of greenhouses and are not particularily
attractive.
Accommodation: apart from a few large
resorts in Analipsi there are plenty of private rooms for rent
and small hotels.
Restaurants: a good choice along the main
road as well as near the harbour and along the sea front in Makrigialos
Shopping: Makrigialos is a large village
with shops
Nightlife: a few bars with music
Beach: Long (700 m) but quite narrow
beach of (not very fine) sand and pebbles. Safe for children. There
is also a second beach to the West of Makrigialos which is wider
and has far less visitors.
